When the producers of the commercial for Finishes new product, "Quantumatic" needed a high quality model for filming they looked no further than Malcolm Nicholls Limited.
MNL's task was to produce a model showing the unique selling points of their product but could also be mounted onto specialist camera movers ready for the filming techniques involved during the making of the commercial
3D CAD was created from scratch using MNLs CAD department. Some areas were simplified as they were not seen by the camera, others were altered away from the real thing in order to accept connectors that would be attached to the model-movers in the filming. Computer controlled model-movers moved the models during filming to enable CGI effects to be added later.
Once 3D CAD was created, SLS models were produced. SLS was chosen over SLA for its durable material, unlike other SLS materials Innov'PA 1550XS is so smooth that surface preparation and paint spraying
is made much simpler compared to other powders.
